Day One - We begin our tour of Israel exploring the cobbled streets of Old Jaffa and it's ancient port. From Jaffa we drive to Caesarea and see Israel's finest expamples of a Roman architecture. King Herod created this city and we visit it's most impressive sites, including the amplitheatre where we view the inscription of Pontius Pilot. We continue our tour along the Mediterranean coast to the modern Israeli port of Haifa. From here we head into the scenic Carmel mountains and ascend Mount Carmel, taking in it's historic sites. Onto Akko (Acre), this fascinating town was fortified by the crusaders and under the citadel archeologists have uncovered the "Knights Halls", a complex of halls including a dungeon used by the legendary Templer Knights. We also visit the impressive port constructed here. In the afternoon we ascend to the city of Tzefat (Safed), the center of Jewish Mysticism, Kabbalah. We enter it's synagogues which are steeped in history and learn of the towns dramatic past and couragous citizens. Onto Galilee and our hotel in Tiberias.
Day 2: We ascend to the Golan Heights, where we visit Qatzrin, it's Talmudic village of Kasrin and it's synagogue. From here we drive to a view point over Quneitra where we can look over into Syria and learn about the disputes of the Golan. The Galilee is blessed with scenic routes ruins and ancient synagogues. We get off the beaten track to explore the hidden gems of Jewish heritage. Onto the Dead Sea to experience natures richest spa. We bathe in the salty water and take a mud bath in the rejuvinating mud. Overnight at Dead Sea hotel.
Day 3: Ascending the famous fortress of Massada, King Herod's mighty desert palace. Massada was used by the steadfast Jews who resisted the might of the invading Roman army. They eventualy took their own lives rather than surrender into slavery. Massada remains one of the most important historic sites in Israel. A short drive from Massada we walk through the Oasis of Ein Gedi and visit it's main waterfall. From here we noard our vehicles and ascend the winding road to Jerusalem.
Our first stop in Jerusalem is on the Mount of Olives where excellent views of Jerusalem give us an insight into the city and help us to understand it's dramatic history. Overnight at Jerusalem hotel.
Day 4: In the morning we visit Israel's famous Chagall Windows at Hadasa Ein Karem. Onto the Yad Vashem memorial where we spend a few hours. We take some time to stroll to neaby mount Hertzel, the resting place of several of Israel's leaders. We continue our tour, briefly stopping at the Knesset, before setting off for the sights and sounds of the Machane Yehuda market. Overnight in Jerusalem.
Day 5: We explore the Old City of Jerusalem, visiting in all the major sites both ancient and modern. We spend time praying at the Kotel (Western Wall), the Nearby dome of the rock was constructed on the Temple Mount and via the Western walls complex tunnel system we can go underground to see the facinating work archeologists are carrying out here. Onto King David's citidel and Tower and a comprehensive tour of the Old City according to groups prefences. Tour completion in Jerusalem.
