Tours from Israel to Petra- Jordan options.
Tours to Jordan and Petra from Tel Aviv & Jerusalem

Petra from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem

Petra from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem - The most efficient route to Petra remains via Eilat. Options for reaching Eilat include; Car with guide, flight, or  public bus. Where possible we advise clients to arrive in Eilat the day before the tour and not the morning of the tour itself.

Guided Drive – A chance to visit some of Israel's most renowned sites while driving from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to Eilat via the Dead Sea, Massada , Ein Gedi, or Mitzpe Ramon and the Negev desert. This is an increasingly popular choice with visitors wishing to make the most of their Israel trip. Guides collect participants from hotels in Tel Aviv or Jerusalem and takes them on a tour ending in Eilat and stopping on route at some of Israels most incredible sites, there is a choice of tour routes available depending on preferences.

Flight - People arriving by flight from the Sde Dov (Tel Aviv) and Ben Gurion airports on the morning of the tour are met at the Eilat airport and taken directly to the border to join the other tour participants. It is highly unadvisable to fly to Eilat on the morning of the tour as delays are common-place. Delayed participants can take a taxi to Petra, at their expense, where they catch up with the tour group. This seriously effects the standard of the tour they receive and if the delay is significant even this may not be an option. Again, wherever possible it's best to avoid the gamble and to arrive a day before.

The Egged bus company runs a regular and reliable service to Eilat from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem and tickets can be booked online, night buses are also available. http://www.egged.co.il/eng/

Remember you also have the option of staying the night before the tour in a hotel in Aqaba just across the border from Eilat. Here the morning pick-up time is 8.00 and not 6.50, we have a selection of hotels on offer and provide transportation to each from Eilat.

We are happy to advise you and assist in booking whichever mode of transport is best for you.

One day Petra tour From Eilat, Tel Aviv or Jerusalem:
Since there is so much to see in Petra it is important we make good use of our time. The day before your tour, your passport details are sent to the border for the Visa lists, this saves us valuable time at the border crossing. You are collected around 7.00 to ensure we are amongst the first to arrive at the border crossing. Our staff will guide you efficiently through the border procedures, as you cross to Jordan your tour guide and tour staff will meet you. Here your Jordanian guide will take care of the border procedures and once the visas are issued we are on our way to Petra
Your tour is exclusively Desert Eco Tours. We operate daily tours in minibuses' and places are limited ensuring our tours run smoothly and spend more time in Petra, approx 4 –5 hours.
Once aboard the mini bus, you will receive bottled mineral water. It is not permitted to take food or drink into Jordan from Israel.
You now begin the two-hour drive to Petra via Aqaba and the famous Wadi Rum. Your specialist guide will give you an in-depth briefing on the history of Jordan and its culture. As you reach the Wadi Rum area the red desert scenery is particularly striking and we take a moment to take in the remarkable views. This area was the base of TE Lawrence during the Arab revolt (Lawrence of Arabia). Nearing Petra we stop once more at a viewpoint overlooking the town of Wadi Musa (Moses Valley) and on a hilltop in the distance we can see the shrine, which marks the grave of Aaron, Moses' brother.
Before we start our visit in Petra, we enjoy some local Baklawa (Arabian cake). From the visitors center at Petra's entrance,  we walk to the Siq Canyon.  Horses are available for this walk but a tip is expected from the handlers ($5).  We suggest participants walk with their guide to the Siq. On the route we see the ‘Silica Quarries', The Jinn Blocks and the first large site the ‘Obelisk Tomb'. At the entrance to the Siq we see the stone damn that protects Petra from floods and the ancient drainage channels of the site. Entering the Siq we see the remains of the Arch that marked the entrance to Petra. We also see the beginning of the Petra's ingenious water system that runs the whole length of the Siq. Within the Siq we find several deities and ancient carvings adorning its towering canyon walls. At the end of the Siq we find Petra's most renowned monument, The Treasury (Khazneh). Here we take a few minutes for photographs before continuing our tour along the impressive Street of Facades towards the Nabataean Theater. We get an impression of some of the most impressive graves, the Royal Tombs. If time allows, we walk along the Colonnade Street and visit the Great Temple. From here we head back to the Siq canyon and Petra's entrance. We take a late lunch at a restaurant in Wadi Mussa, remember that drinks are not included in the tour price (standard practice). Returning from here to Aqaba and Eilat, en route we see the sunset over Wadi Rum and stop briefly at Aqaba's colorful Arabian market (souq). After getting an impression of Jordan's only port city, we return to Eilat hotels by evening.
Note: El Deir  (the Monastery), only on private tours due to limited time.
